I Rendezvous undergoes restructure
Singapore (2009-10-26)

STRAITS Trading Company has combined Rendezvous Hotels and Resorts International with its hospitality assets under a new wholly-owned subsidiary, Rendezvous Hospitality Group (RHG).

RHG CEO Iqbal Jumabhoy said the Singapore-based company intends to become the leading regional player in the Asia-Pacific region's business hotel segment. "There are very few players who both own and manage hotel assets that are Asian based. We intend to...grow to over 12,000 rooms in the region by 2020."

Jumabhoy added the Rendezvous and The Marque brands would be repositioned as business hotels in a S$190 million (US$136 million) investment to refurbish both owned and leased properties to meet new standards.

Jumabhoy was appointed in March this year to restructure the hospitality business of Straits Trading, and will be responsible for expanding RHG beyond its current Australia and New Zealand base.

RHG currently operates 13 Rendezvous and Marque branded hotels in Asia-Pacific, with four new properties in the pipeline.
